Alongside Misús Ricalde, the director of the upcoming film La Divina Providencia, I designed the film’s graphic identity, translating the film’s script and creative intentions into a visual narrative. For the design, I studied the elements that Misús Ricalde had filmed in Culiacán, Sinaloa, where she connects with different characters and locations, showcasing unique elements surrounding the celebration of the saint Jesús Malverde in a procession where many converge.
For the title, I got inspired in the typeface unique of the chapel where Jesús Malverde is celebrated—a hand-drawn, blemished yet straightforwardly beautiful typeface. I re-traced it and created new characters. For the poster and other graphic materials, I worked with the interplay between greens and reds that Misús uses to illustrate the contrasts and contradictions surrounding the celebration.
